Fiber In-Home Technician (Hillsboro)

Job Description

South Central Power Company, Ohio’s largest electric cooperative, is seeking two individuals to fill the position of Fiber In-Home Technician. One position will report out of our Hillsboro, OH location and the second out of our Barnesville, OH location.

This position is responsible for maintenance and installation of service for the fiber to the premises (FTTP) subsidiary. This includes home installations, routine and emergency maintenance and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities include working closely with customers to coordinate the routing and installation of fiber devices and outlets, performing disconnects, reconnects, and service upgrades. Integrating company services with customer equipment, including connection, and set up of customer devices. The In-Home Technician will participate in on-call/standy-by duties as requested during emergency situations. Other duties include:

  • Confirm and record proper levels and signal quality within required specifications.
  • Troubleshoot escalated service concerns when remote troubleshooting is ineffective.
  • Educate customers on services and equipment, including access to technical support and additional product offerings.
  • Stock materials and secure assigned vehicle and equipment, routinely clean and organize vehicle.
  • Maintain records and reports documenting work performed; complete work orders, truck inventory, service orders and communicate challenges to supervisor or other staff as necessary to ensure efficient scheduling and timely completion.

We are looking for an experienced individual who is self-motivated, organized, and handles situations with tact and poise. The successful candidate will demonstrate sound judgment, effective problem-solving skills, strong attention to detail, and excellent written and verbal skills.

Job Related Qualifications

What the job requires…

  • High school diploma or equivalence certificate in addition to experience in residential fiber optic or wiring/cable installation and integration.
  • Knowledge of basic hand and power tools is required.
  • Must possess basic knowledge of computer systems sufficient to install, connect to the internet, maintain, operate and demonstrate systems and camera that permit remote viewing from a mobile device.
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
