Job Classification: Entry Level Police Officer

The Hillsboro Police Department is seeking to maintain an eligibility list for the position of Full-Time Police officer with one (1) immediate opening. All candidates must take the FrontLine National exam through National Testing Network to be considered further in the hiring process. The department requires the candidate Public Safety Self Assessments (PSSAs). You can access the assessments through your candidate account. NTN suggests completing the PSSAs as soon as possible so there is not a delay in your process.

Salary Information: Entry Level $23.95 – potential top out 5th year $30.86 (education dependent)

Valid OHIO Driver’s License : Yes

Ability to Read/Speak English : Yes

Academy Certification : Must be OPOTA Certified within 30 days of taking the written test.

Necessary Certifications : MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR ENTRANCE TO THE EXAMINATION

Applicants must have been a resident of the State of Ohio immediately preceding the date of the application. Applicants must also be an OPOTC certified peace officer within 30 days of the written test.

Additional Requirements :

The following must be included with the application:

  • Medical History required on application form
  • Veterans must submit DD214
  • High school diploma, GED certificate, or equivalent
  • Valid Ohio Driver’s license
  • Birth Certificate

Hiring Process :

  • POLYGRAPH EXAMINATION – Only those applicants who receive a passing grade and are in contention for appointment will be given a polygraph examination, which will be administered by examiners designated with an accredited Polygraph Examiner. Eligibility list candidates will be notified to report for the polygraph examination when directed to do so as part of the background process.
  • MEDICAL EXAMINATION – Only those applicants who receive a passing grade and are in contention for appointment will be given a medical examination which will be administered by medical examiners designated by the Civil Service Commission. Eligibility list candidates will be notified to report for the medical examination when directed to do so as part of the background process. When considered for hire, applicants will undergo an extensive background investigation and interview processes, including a criminal and driving history check; personal and employment references; and verification of documents. Any offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion of a written and polygraph exam.
