Nursing Faculty (Full Time)

DISTINGUISHING JOB CHARACTERISTICS

Engages students in the teaching/learning process in classroom, lab, and clinical; works assigned schedule, participates in college committee work, represents the college in the community, and performs other related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan and teach courses including classroom, lab, and clinical sessions which fulfill the current curriculum goals and objectives.
  • Contribute to the evaluation and implementation of, or changes in program curriculum.
  • Remain current with subject matter and instructional methodology.
  • Maintain posted office hours in accordance with departmental and college policies.
  • Employ appropriate   assessment   techniques   to   measure   student   performance   in achieving course goals and objectives.
  • Communicate progress in the course to students in a timely manner.
  • Determine and submit students’ grades in accordance with established college policies and procedures.
  • Assist with student advising.
  • Develop syllabi, mentor adjunct faculty, plus establish and maintain advisory groups. Support the mission of the program, division, and college.
  • Works assigned schedule – may include evening & weekend hours, exhibits regular and punctual attendance and works outside of normal schedule as needed to meet workload demands.
  • Serve as a role model for students in professional interaction with other health workers and with clinical facilities.
  • Maintain a safe environment for the provision of patient care during clinical experiences.
  • Coach students to provide safe and efficacious patient care during classroom, lab, and clinical experiences.
  • Promote positive and productive relationships with service area hospitals, clinics, businesses, industries, and agencies.
  • Maintain relationships with clinical sites and professional peers that support the reputation of SSCC and the Nursing Program
  • Continue as competent faculty in nursing by seeking new knowledge, improving teaching skills, and updating professional competencies.
  • Promote student development through enrichment and mentoring experiences.
  • Serves on departmental and SSCC committees as desires or assigned.
  • Fulfills teaching loads as selected and assigned.

Performs other related duties as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Good classroom working conditions. The work requires the use of safe work practices with office, class room, laboratory, and clinical care equipment, and observance of safety regulations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly sits for extended periods of time and regularly stands and walks. The employee regularly exhibits manual dexterity when working on the computer, typing and performing other related tasks. The employee regularly reaches with hands and arms, stoops, kneels and crouches. The employee regularly talks and hears when teaching or working with students and the general public. Vision demands include close, relatively detailed vision, with the ability to adjust focus when typing or reading a computer screen. The employee occasionally lifts or exerts force on objects weighing up to 100 pounds.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge, Skill (s) and Ability to: Understands the scope of practice for the LPN and RN licensed in the state of Ohio. Effectively communicate one-on-one, in small groups, and in classroom situations, proficient in Microsoft Office presentation software, internet, and e-mail, demonstrated ability to work with a diverse group of students, capability to teach in more than one discipline, demonstrated ability to advise students, effective verbal, written , and listening communication skills, effective problem solving skills, ability to work a combination of days/evening/weekend schedules, maintain confidentiality; understand curricular requirements, create and implement appropriate and educational lesson plans; apply generally accepted teaching methods to practical  work  situations; utilize various learning strategies to facilitate student engagement; apply  ethical  standards  to  work  situations; make  work decisions in accordance with SSCC’s values; show respect and sensitivity for cultural differences, and promote an harassment-free environment; embrace and support constructive change; develop and maintain effective working relationships  with students, staff, members of the learning community and general public; contribute toward building a positive team working environment; treat  others with respect as representative of SSCC. Is self-driven working with a level of autonomy while being accountable to the planned outcomes of the curriculum plan.  Engage in life-long learning opportunities. Demonstrate understanding of the culture of the communities served.  Assess and implement action plans (including referrals) to assist the student to obtain resources to support success.

QUALIFICATIONS

Master Degree in Nursing or plan for completion required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing required if master degree in nursing not completed. Expert level and passion for medical/surgical nursing practice required with a minimum of 5 years’ experience A minimum of 2 years’ experience as a nurse educator is preferred.

Applicant must successfully pass required background checks in accordance with Southern State Community College’s policies and procedures and applicable laws.

Ability to document identity and employment eligibility as a condition of employment in compliance with Immigration Reform and Control Act requirements.

LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Valid and non-restricted registered nurse licensure in state of Ohio
