Title: School Secretary

Reports to: Principal

Minimum Qualifications:
• A record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment.
• Embodies high ethical standards and integrity. Accepts responsibility for decisions and conduct.
• Complies with drug-free workplace rules, board policies, and administrative guidelines/procedures.
• Ability to establish working relationships with co-workers and function as part of a cohesive team.
• Commitment to keep current with skills essential to the objectives of the position.
• Ability to interact comfortably and confidently with the public. Congenial phone etiquette.
• Consistently dependable and flexible. Accepts new responsibilities/assignments willingly.
• Proficient in office protocols, data entry, spelling, proofreading, and the correct use of grammar.
• Record maintenance skills. Ability to accurately compute and record mathematical data.
• Energetic self-starter. Thorough, gives careful attention to details and record mathematical data.

Job Objective:
Perform secretarial duties that support the effective management of school operations.

Performance Responsibilities:
• Provides secretarial services. Organizes assigned duties. Takes initiative to perform routine tasks independently. Maintains electronic databases and paper filing systems that support the safe and efficient retention/retrieval of file/records. Maintains an orderly work area.
• Refers district policy questions to administrators.
• Helps students to understand and embrace ethical conduct and democratic values.
• Maintains a professional appearance. Wears work attire appropriate for the position.
• Performs other specific job-related duties as directed.

Other Responsibilities:
• Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
• Demonstrates professionalism and contributes to a positive work/learning environment.
• Effectively uses active listening, observation, reading, verbal, nonverbal, and writing skills.
• Reacts productively to interruptions and changing conditions.
• Verifies and correctly enters data. Prepares accurate and timely reports/paperwork.
• Work efficiently with limited supervision. Prioritizes tasks to meet deadlines.

Working Conditions:
• Exposure to blood- borne pathogens and communicable diseases.
• Exposure to adverse weather conditions and temperature extremes.
• Balancing, bending, crouching, kneeling, reaching, and standing.
• Lifting, carrying, and moving work-related supplies/equipment.
• Interactions with aggressive, disruptive, and/or unruly individuals,
• Performing repetitive tasks for prolonged periods.

Performance Evaluation:
Job performance is evaluated according to policy provisions and contractual agreements adopted by the Bright Local Schools Board of Education.
