Job Summary

Must be able to learn department policies and procedures, understand safety practices, and suggest changes when necessary, recognize unusual or threatening conditions and take appropriate action, carry out detailed written or oral instructions, co-operate with co-workers, use all types off-hand and power operated shop tools, drive all types of licensed vehicles and, have a working familiarity with all types of light and heavy duty off-the-road equipment.

Minimum Qualifications:

·        Must have primary education (high school diploma) or equivalent.

·        Must have any combination of education, training, or work experience necessary to perform the work.

·        Three years of experience in the maintenance and repair of trucks, tractors, and construction equipment is required.

·        Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is preferred.

·        If applicant does not possess of valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) we do offer a training program upon successful completion of a mandatory probationary period.

Position Responsibilities:

The duties listed below are illustrative of the types of tasks performed within this classification and are not intended to be all-inclusive nor are they intended to exclude tasks of a similar nature which are not specifically mentioned.

·        Performs routine maintenance and repair of all vehicles and equipment including: obtaining parts, fueling, washing, adding or changing oil, grease, or fluids necessary, repairing tires, etc. Makes minor alterations and repairs such as installing mud flaps, replacing head, tail and caution lights, changing tires, batteries, air filters, tire chains, wiper blades, snow plows, salt spreaders, etc. Performs repair and maintenance of hydraulic, cooling, and electrical systems, power trains, and all other mechanical functions of the equipment.

·        May infrequently assist in the performance of a variety of highway maintenance needs including repair of road surfaces, right-of-ways, drainage structures, and traffic control devices, and the control of ice and snow, etc.

·        May assist in the performance of occasional building and grounds maintenance duties including sweeping, trash removal, mopping, painting, handling materials, snow and ice control, etc.

Physical Requirements:

  • Strength & Lifting: Frequently lifting/moving 25–50 lbs, and occasionally up to 100 lbs (e.g., tires, engines, transmissions).
  • Stamina & Position: Constant standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
  • Dexterity & Handling: High hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity for manipulating small tools and parts in tight spaces.
  • Physical Mobility: Ability to reach with hands/arms, twist, climb, and balance.
  • Vision & Sensory: Excellent close-up vision, color vision, and depth perception to diagnose issues and read instruments.

Working Conditions & Demands:

  • Environment: Frequent exposure to loud noise, fumes, dust, and extreme temperatures (heat/cold).
  • Physical Hazards: Regular contact with grease, oils, chemicals, and hot surfaces.
  • Safety Gear: Required use of protective equipment like safety glasses, boots, and gloves.
  • Repetitive Motion Injuries: High-intensity hand/arm use can lead to issues for those without proper physical conditioning.
