Domestic Relations/Civil Assignment Commissioner for Common Pleas Court
Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Salary commensurate with experience.
Essential Job Functions: Responsible for the general receiving of civil and domestic cases and motions filed with the Clerk; tickles those new cases and filings for service of process and review when appropriate; distributes the filings to the appropriate staff; provides general instruction on filings; oversees all cases going into and out of the Judge’s and Magistrate’s chambers; makes sure all cases are opened and closed properly for the Supreme Court Report. Oversees the domestic relations docket; assists the Magistrate with calling all cases in for Court and manages the Courtroom; preps entries ahead of time to save the Magistrate time on writing orders and decisions; uses discretion to schedule hearings on a case-by-case basis; contacts and works alongside the Fayette County Child Support Enforcement Agency and Fayette County Children Services; maintains the internal files of cases; and upholds the confidentiality of sensitive information. Takes incoming calls and answers questions and/or directs those calls to the appropriate office when needed; greets and assists any person who enters the Judge’s/Magistrate’s Office; calls/emails attorneys to schedule hearings; opens and forwards any incoming mail; is professional and uses discretion when handling confidentiality of cases, as well as adhering to the ethical standards required of the Judge and Magistrate.
Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma, GED or equivalent. Secretarial or Administrative experience in a court system and/or related field or a degree in criminal justice, preferred but not necessary. Proficient in Microsoft Word, attention to detail is a must.
Licensure or Certification Requirements: Must possess a valid Ohio driver’s license and maintain insurability under the County’s vehicle insurance policy. Employee will be responsible to drive own motor vehicle and may be required to travel, within and/or beyond the county or state limits.
