The State of Ohio Transportation District 09 invites applications for the positions of 2018 College Intern-Construction Department (D9)

Hours of work: Based on operational needs.

Salary: $8.50 – $14.72 Hourly

Job Duties: This position will involve various duties that will either supplement the student’s major field of study and/or provide experience that is a useful addition to the student’s education and meaningful preparation for future professional employment.

Student will receive training in proper procedures for inspection of work being done by contractors (e.g. widening & resurfacing projects, hazard elimination (safety upgrading), signing, guardrail, intersections, drainage facilities, forms & reinforcing steel; concrete placement on structures, flexible & rigid pavement; assist in bituminous plants, perform test on concrete & soil; assists in surveying, etc.

Performs support functions in record keeping, maintains accurate data of work performed, organizes materials, and compiles information to assist in report preparation.

Minimum Qualifications: Must currently be enrolled in a college or university and in good academic standing

Must show proof of valid driver’s license in order to operate state vehicle

Supplemental Information:
The rate of pay is based upon the student’s academic status (which is determined by the college or university):
Freshman (1st year)= $8.50 – $11.72
Sophomore (2nd year)= $9.00 – $12.22
Junior (3rd year)= $9.50 – $13.72
Senior = $9.75 – $14.72

Civil Engineering track is preferred.
The final applicant selected for this position will be required to submit to urinalysis prior to appointment to test for illegal drug use. An applicant with a positive test result will not be offered employment.

Temporary appointments are unclassified pursuant to O.R.C. 124.30 (B).

This position is overtime eligible based on FLSA Standards.

The final candidate selected for the position will be required to undergo a criminal background check. Criminal convictions do not necessarily preclude an applicant from consideration for a position. An individual assessment of an applicant’s prior criminal convictions will be made before excluding an applicant from consideration.
